Kanpur: Farrukhabad police arrested after an encounter a man accused of raping a minor girl in Farrukhabad district late Friday night. The accused sustained bullet injury in the leg and was sent to Lohia Hospital for treatment along with a constable who was injured too.On Friday afternoon, the accused allegedly took the minor girl, resident of a village, to a hut in a corn field and raped her. Kamalganj police station in charge inspector Lalit Kumar was patrolling late Friday night with his team when they received information about the accused hiding in a field near Ugrapur village on the Rajipur-Jarari road. Inspector Lalit Kumar, SSI Sandeep Gautam and Vimal Yadav reached the spot with their team and cordoned the area. On seeing the police, the accused opened fire and one bullet grazed through the right hand of constable Lokendra. In retaliatory firing by the police team, the accused, identified as Ashok Verma, was shot in the right leg, after which he was arrested. The accused and the constable were admitted to the community health centre. After primary treatment, the accused was referred to Lohia Hospital.ASP Arun Kumar Singh said one country-made pistol and two empty cartridges were recovered from possession of the accused.
