Shillong: CM Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday said Shillong should evolve into a ‘centre of excellence’ for the northeast, BIMSTEC and southeast Asia, serving as a hub for innovation, technology and problem-solving.Speaking after inaugurating Shillong tech park-II at New Shillong township on Wednesday, Sangma said his govt was among the largest users of technology and that solutions developed in Meghalaya could be replicated elsewhere.“I envision Meghalaya emerging as a hub for innovation, technology and solutions for the entire northeast and the wider region, a place where people come to build, innovate, collaborate and find solutions. With our young, tech-savvy population and growing infrastructure, we are creating the ecosystem to make this vision a reality,” he said.Built at a cost of Rs 121 crore, Phase II adds 1.8 lakh square feet of ready-to-occupy technology space—the largest single addition of dedicated IT space in the state.Agreements have been signed with Shillong-based StaffFlex LLP and Shamrock AI. US-based Alorica will occupy two floors, while an AI centre of excellence, sponsored under the Centre’s India AI Mission, will also be established at the park.
