Guwahati: Three senior central leaders of CJP — Ankit Bhardwaj, Anam and Varun Agarwal — joined a Raijor Dal rally at Chachal in Guwahati to demand adequate compensation for flood-hit families in upper Assam. The event marked the organisation’s entry into the state.Addressing the rally, Bhardwaj questioned the Assam govt’s failure to find what he called a permanent solution to recurring floods. He also alleged the govt had “surrendered” to sand mafias, worsening flooding in Sivasagar and neighbouring districts.After the rally, Raijor Dal, led by Akhil Gogoi, submitted a memorandum to the CM in the presence of hundreds of people, seeking adequate compensation for flood victims in upper Assam and a CBI probe into the floods.“Every time we hear in Delhi that Assam has been hit by floods. But Assam faces floods every year. Is the youth of Assam supposed to endure these floods every year? Can the Assam govt not find a permanent solution to this problem?” Bhardwaj said.“What is the compulsion that forces the Assam government to bow before the mining mafia, those involved in illegal mining and illegal sand mining?” he said, amid allegations that sand mining in the Dikhow river and hill cutting along the Assam-Nagaland border contributed to flooding in Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat in July.Bhardwaj said around 20,000 people had registered with the CJP in Assam and that the organisation would assign responsibilities to members. He urged protesters to remain united and peaceful and continue the agitation until the govt accepted their demands.
