Guwahati: Deep Thakuria, father of Nimisha Thakuria, has appealed to the authorities for justice and sought a thorough and impartial investigation into her death.After identifying his daughter’s body, Thakuria said Nimisha had left home around 5 pm on Friday. She had told her mother that she might stay at Gauhati University hostel with her friends. Around 10 pm, she called her mother and said she would spend the night there.However, later at night, Nimisha called them again unexpectedly, Thakuria said.“Around 2 am, she called her mother. We were asleep at the time. She told her, ‘Ma, they have beaten me. They punched me in the chest and assaulted me. I am injured.’ After that, we could no longer reach her. We kept calling her repeatedly, but there was no response. Later, the phone rang again and my younger daughter answered. We all got up and tried to communicate with her, but we could not clearly understand what she said,” Nimisha’s father said.Thakuria said he and his family members then rushed to Azara Police Station and informed the second officer-in-charge (OC) about the situation. The officer tried to trace Nimisha’s phone location.After about half an hour, Thakuria said the officer called them inside and said a girl had been found dead at Garal PHC. He asked them to go and verify whether she was the person they were looking for, telling them that, if it was her, she would be immediately taken to GMCH.Thakuria said Nimisha had not told the family that she would be spending the night at a homestay with Ashiq Ali. Instead, she had said she would be staying at Gauhati University hostel with her friends.“She took Rs 2,000 just two days back, saying she would go out to eat with her friends and stay overnight at a friend’s hostel,” he said.
