Gurgaon: Two illegal colonies spread across nearly 14 acres in Sultanpur village and an unauthorised market in Alimuddinpur were demolished on Friday.The drive was carried out by a team of the district town planner (enforcement) of the department of town and country planning, with the assistance of Farukhnagar police. Officials said the drive was aimed at preventing further plotting and construction activity in areas where colonies had been developed without the required approvals.In Sultanpur, the enforcement team demolished 30 DPCs (demarcation/plinth-level structures) and nearly 600 running metres of boundary walls that had been constructed at the sites.The team also demolished an interlocking road network measuring around 400 metres, which had been laid inside the unauthorised colonies. Officials said such infrastructure was being created to facilitate further development and plotting in the area.Apart from the colony-related violations, the enforcement team also took action against an under-construction farmhouse in Sultanpur. The unauthorised construction at the site was demolished during the drive.The department said the removal of roads, boundary walls and other infrastructure was necessary to check the expansion of unauthorised colonies and prevent people from undertaking further construction or purchasing plots in such areas.The enforcement drive was subsequently extended to the revenue estate of Alimuddinpur village, where the team targeted an unauthorised commercial market near Birhera Mor. Illegal commercial structures raised at the site were demolished as part of the action.Officials warned that construction and development without requisite approvals could invite enforcement action.District town planner (enforcement) Amit Madholia said action against unauthorised colonies and illegal construction would continue. The department is also keeping a watch on areas where unauthorised plotting and construction activities are being undertaken, officials said.The latest drive comes amid continued enforcement against illegal colonies and unauthorised development in the Gurgaon region, particularly in revenue estates outside approved/licensed development areas.
