Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan received a rousing welcome in Mangaluru on Wednesday, turning his visit into an emotional celebration of memories, dreams and his enduring bond with the coastal city.The actor won hearts the moment he stepped on stage, greeting the audience in Tulu: “Namaskara Kudla… Encha Ullar?” (“Greetings, Mangaluru… How are you all?”), drawing loud cheers from the crowd. He also delighted fans by revealing his fondness for the city’s beloved Neer Dosa.Sharing his personal connection with Mangaluru, Shah Rukh said the city holds a special place in his heart as his grandfather worked at the New Mangalore Port Trust and that he spent nearly five years of his early childhood here. Though he remembers little from those years, he recently discovered a childhood photograph taken in Mangaluru, which, he said, has become a treasured reminder of his roots.Reflecting on his journey, the superstar said he completed 34 years in the film industry just the previous night and was especially happy to mark the milestone in a city so closely linked to his childhood.“The moment I touched Mangaluru’s soil today, it took me back to my childhood days,” he said.Addressing youngsters, Shah Rukh urged them to pursue their dreams fearlessly and never live with the regret of not trying.“Chase your dreams, even the strangest ones. You may or may not achieve them, but never stop trying,” he said, adding that he entered films not for fame or money, but to make people happy.In a lighter moment, when asked what he might have become had his family never left Mangaluru, Shah Rukh quipped that he would probably have been a teacher, perhaps at institutions such as St Aloysius or Mount Carmel. “I think I would have become one of Mangaluru’s top teachers,” he joked, drawing laughter from the audience.The evening ended on a nostalgic note as Shah Rukh dedicated the iconic song Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana Sanam to the audience and danced to it on stage. He then invited fans to recreate his trademark outstretched-arms pose before taking a selfie with the packed venue in the background.Calling it one of the most special nights of his life, Shah Rukh said he would cherish the photograph — and the overwhelming affection of Mangaluru — forever.
