Mark your calendars for February 20th, as Union Home Minister Amit Shah embarks on a two-day journey to Assam. His itinerary includes the launch of the second phase of the Vibrant Villages Programme in Silchar, followed by his attendance at a grand CRPF parade in Guwahati.

Guwahati: Union home minister Amit Shah is likely to visit Assam on a two-day tour from Feb 20 to roll out a programme and take part in a CRPF parade, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday. It will be his third visit to the state before the assembly polls, likely to be held in March-April.Sarma said Shah will start his tour from Silchar in Cachar district of Barak valley, where he will launch the scheme under the second phase of the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP). “The home minister will reach Guwahati the next day and take part in the annual day parade of the CRPF. There will be an arms display and presentations on CRPF’s operations in Chhattisgarh and Kashmir, among other things,” he said.The CM said NCC cadets will be encouraged to witness the CRPF parade so that they are motivated to join the force.“Our youths give interviews for jobs in Assam Police, but do not appear for the CRPF. We, therefore, plan to open a CRPF recruitment centre in Assam. We have already acquired land in Dhemaji district,” Sarma said.Shah visited the state on Dec 29 last year to inaugurate a bunch of projects, including the revered Batadrava Than redevelopment project at the birthplace of Vaishnavite saint and social reformer Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev in Nagaon, besides Swahid Smarak Kshetra and Jyoti Bishnu Cultural Complex in Guwahati. Again, he visited the state on a two day tour on Jan 29-30 starting in Dibrugarh for project unveilings including Assam Assembly complex, Mising festival in Dhemaji and BJP meeting in Guwahati.
