Budgam, Feb 15: At the Istiqbal-e-Ramdan programme held in Budgam district of Central Kashmir, Grand Mufti Nasir ul Islam Farooqi, Sunday  delivered a strong and unequivocal message against sectarianism, terrorism and communal discord, urging society to rise above divisions and uphold the centuries-old ethos of Kashmiriyat.

As per a statement issued here, ddressing scholars, community leaders, and citizens across diverse sectarian thoughts, Mufti Farooqi emphasized that ideological differences must never become a cause for hostility. “Differences in jurisprudence or interpretation are part of intellectual tradition, but hatred and division are not,” he stated, underlining that Islam stands firmly for unity, justice, and peaceful coexistence.

In a powerful condemnation of terrorism, the Mufti reiterated that violence in the name of religion is a distortion of faith. He stressed that extremism only weakens the social and moral fabric of society, while unity strengthens the collective voice of the people, especially as the holy month of Ramzaan approaches a month that calls for self-reflection, patience, and brotherhood. The event was also graced by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who delivered a detailed lecture emphasizing inter-sect harmony and dialogue. The presence of prominent religious voices on a single platform symbolized a reassuring moment of consensus in times often marked by division.
