Guwahati: A prostitution racket was busted in Goalpara district during a late night operation. Three youths were arrested and two women, who were victims, were rescued, police said on Saturday.Goalpara police station officer-in-charge (OC) Brajen Medhi said the operation was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs indicating suspicious activities inside a hotel. Acting on this information, the police team conducted a raid at the location.“The youths were arrested. However, their identities have not been disclosed at this stage due to the ongoing investigation,” the OC said. He added that further inquiry is underway to ascertain the full extent of the racket.“The arrested persons are currently being interrogated. Had we known about it earlier, we could have shut down the operation sooner. We have registered a case under Sections 61(2) and 143 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3, 4, 5, and 7 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956,” Medhi added.Police said during the hotel inspection, the owner was not found. The manager was present at the location and has been taken in for questioning. Police suspect that a group is working together to run a larger racket.
