Guwahati: A 29-year-old man died after falling from the seventh floor of a shopping mall in Guwahati. Paltan Bazar police station officers have termed the incident an accident.Siddhanta Das, hailing from Sonapur area, on the outskirts of Kamrup (Metropolitan) district, had gotten married just a month back.Das arrived in the city and went to the mall on Friday to celebrate a friend’s birthday when the unfortunate incident happened.Paltan Bazar OC Kalpajyoti Bhuyan said, “Based on what we have uncovered so far, Das went up to the seventh floor of the mall. From there, he either slipped or lost his balance and fell to the ground floor. We have also reviewed the mall’s CCTV footage to explore the possibility of foul play, but found no evidence of it.”Bhuyan said Das was grievously injured, and was rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where he died during treatment. “Paltan Bazar police station has registered an unnatural death (UD) case. However, investigation will continue to ascertain the cause of death,” he added.Das’s family received the news in the early hours of Saturday and rushed to the city. Speaking to the media, his mother said, “I received the news around 8am. He had come to the city with his wife on Friday for work. He told me he would attend a friend’s birthday and return home. However, he later informed me that he would stay at his in-laws’ place as it was raining, assuring me of returning home the next morning.”However, his mother said Das, after dropping home his wife, went back to celebrate with his friends.
