Thiruvananthapuram: A disaster management training programme under Yuva Aapda Mitra initiative has commenced in the district. The programme is being organised jointly by national, state and district disaster management authorities in collaboration with Mera Yuva Bharat (autonomous body set up by Union ministry of youth affairs & sports), aimed at training its volunteers in disaster response.The training programme was inaugurated by district collector and chairperson of district Disaster Management Authority Anu Kumari at the Institution of Engineers. The seven-day camp is designed to equip youth with essential disaster preparedness and response skills. Participants will receive scientific training and awareness on handling emergency situations, fundamentals of disaster management, disaster response operations, basic first aid and preparedness for search and rescue missions. The programme will also cover snakebite prevention and precautions, as well as fire safety protocols. Volunteers who successfully complete the training will be awarded certificates, identity cards, uniforms and emergency kits. Among those present at the inaugural session were Anil Kumar M, district hazard analyst Devika B S, Mera Yuva Bharat deputy director Suhas N and Yuva Aapda Mitra master trainer Aarav Amal S Kumar.
