Kanpur: Police have arrested a 30-year-old man accused of creating panic in the city by allegedly hurling a flammable, sticky substance at three women — a nurse, a student and a tuition teacher — in separate incidents over the past two days.The accused, identified as Dilshad, a resident of Sharadanagar, was arrested during a joint operation by the Rawatpur and Kalyanpur police. Officers recovered the bicycle allegedly used in the attacks, two bottles containing a flammable liquid and 510 grams of charas from his possession.During questioning, the accused allegedly told investigators that he targeted women because he found the act “enjoyable”.Police said they are now examining his mental health and verifying his criminal antecedents.According to DCP (West) SZ Qasim Abidi, the first incident was reported on Saturday when an unidentified man threw a sticky substance at a nurse returning from duty near Number 9 Crossing in the Rawatpur area. Shortly afterwards, a student was targeted in a similar manner.While police teams were investigating the incidents, another woman — a tuition teacher — was attacked in the Kalyanpur area on Sunday, prompting authorities to intensify the search for the suspect.A joint task force comprising personnel from the Rawatpur and Kalyanpur police stations was formed to crack the case. Investigators analysed CCTV footage from the incident sites and surrounding areas, which led them to identify a suspicious individual.Acting on a tip-off, police laid a trap in the Jawaharpuram area behind ELDECO and apprehended the suspect.
