Kanpur: The seven-day Wildlife Week, organised under the aegis of Society for Conservation of Nature and Social Forestry Division, Etawah, concluded on Thursday with an event dedicated to the conservation of the critically endangered species ‘Red Crown Roof Turtle’.A special awareness seminar was held at Jan Sahyogi Inter College Modhi, in which the teachers and students participated on Thursday. Presiding over the programme, Jan Sahyogi Inter College principal Manju Bhadauriya said, “Rare species like the Red Crown Roof Turtle are symbols of the health of our rivers. If they become extinct, our aquatic ecology will collapse completely.”General secretary of SCON, Dr Rajeev Chauhan, said that declared ‘critically endangered’ by International Union for Conservation of Nature, male turtles of this species develop beautiful bright red, yellow, white and blue stripes on their faces and necks during the breeding season.At the end of the programme, in the presence of SCON office-bearers and the college staff, all students were administered an oath to protect wildlife and keep the environment clean.
