Srinagar, July 20: In view of the forecast of heavy rainfall and the possibility of flash floods, landslides, waterlogging and shooting stones, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Kashmir has issued a detailed public advisory, urging residents to remain alert and follow all safety guidelines.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, SSP SDRF 1st Battalion said that the advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure amid forecasts of intense rainfall across several areas. He urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel and remain vigilant, especially in vulnerable and low-lying areas.
He advised people to stay away from rivers, streams, lakes, waterfalls, nallahs and riverbanks, warning that water levels can rise suddenly during heavy rainfall. He also cautioned against sightseeing, photography, fishing or any recreational activity near water bodies.
The SSP further advised commuters to avoid travel unless necessary and exercise extreme caution while driving on hill roads and landslide-prone stretches. Residents have also been urged not to cross flooded roads, submerged bridges, culverts or waterlogged areas.
Parents have been asked to keep children away from open drains, culverts and water channels, while people have been advised not to walk or park vehicles in dry riverbeds and nallahs as they can suddenly fill with fast-flowing water.
Livestock owners were urged to shift animals to safer locations and ensure proper shelter and drinking water.
People have also been advised to keep emergency kits ready, charge mobile phones and stay updated through official weather bulletins and government advisories.
The SSP said that public cooperation and timely precautions are essential to minimise the impact of weather-related emergencies.

Residents have been advised to immediately dial 112 in case of any emergency and strictly follow instructions issued by the District Administration, SDRF and other disaster management agencies.
