T’puram: An Inspector attached to state crime records bureau (SCRB) has been suspended after he allegedly entered Nedumangad police station without permission, attempted to secure the release of detainees from lawful police custody and obstructed police personnel from discharging their duties.IG P Prakash issued the suspension order against M Yahiya, who was serving as circle inspector in SCRB’s MOIS wing, with immediate effect pending a departmental inquiry.The action comes days after Yahiya was taken into police custody following an incident at Nedumangad police station. According to police, four people were detained late on Thursday from Chullimanoor in connection with a dispute over a football match. Police said the group was allegedly found carrying iron rods and was lodged in the station lock-up for further legal proceedings.Around noon on Friday, Yahiya allegedly arrived at the police station and demanded the release of two of the detainees, claiming they were his relatives. Police personnel on security duty refused the request, stating that the investigation was still in progress and the detainees could not be released.The suspension order states that the officer then entered the station without authorisation and attempted to release the detainees from lawful custody. In the process, he allegedly obstructed the sub inspector and other officers from carrying out their official duties.The suspension order said Yahiya’s alleged actions amounted to serious indiscipline and conduct unbecoming of a police officer. The SP, SCRB, has been directed to conduct a detailed departmental inquiry under the Kerala Police Departmental Inquiries, Punishment and Appeal Rules, 1958, and submit the findings within two months.The officers on duty also suspected that Yahiya was under the influence of alcohol. He was taken into custody and produced before doctors at Nedumangad district hospital, where a drunkenness examination was conducted and a blood sample was collected.Police subsequently registered a case against him under Section 117(e) of the Kerala Police Act for allegedly threatening police personnel and obstructing them in the discharge of their duties.
