As predicted by the weather department, the city remained under cloud cover for most of the day, while scattered mild drizzle began in the morning. Light rain was reported from several parts of the city.

Kanpur: Kanpur residents got relief from the intense heat with cloud cover and drizzle on Thursday. However, humid and sultry weather conditions continued to trouble citizens throughout the day.As predicted by the weather department, the city remained under cloud cover for most of the day, while scattered mild drizzle began in the morning. Light rain was reported from several parts of the city.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that the southwest monsoon has covered the entire Central India region along with Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. Due to active monsoon conditions, thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and heavy rainfall are likely across all districts of the Kanpur division during the next 24 hours.The IMD further stated that moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal would bring dense cloud cover across the division, providing relief from humid heat conditions.According to the forecast for Kanpur, cloud cover is expected to increase from Friday afternoon onwards, while heavy rain accompanied by strong winds is likely late at night or during the early morning hours next day.The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 33 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 29 degrees Celsius.Weather expert at Chandra Shekhar University of Agriculture & Technology, Dr SN Sunil Pandey, said that due to atmospheric moisture and enhanced moisture inflow, cloudy conditions are likely to persist across the Kanpur division till July 5. He said there is a possibility of strong winds, isolated drizzle, and light rain accompanied by gusty winds and thundercloud activity in this period.He added that weather conditions would remain pleasant, but if sunlight emerges for prolonged periods, heat and humidity levels may rise significantly.Meanwhile, cloudy sky kept the mercury level stagnant on Thursday. The maximum temperature was recorded at 33.6 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature settled at 25.6 degrees Celsius. Maximum relative humidity reached 92%, while minimum relative humidity was recorded at 72% on Thursday. Total rainfall during the day was measured at 1 mm.North-westerly winds blowing at a speed of 3 kmph provided some relief from humid conditions.
