Srinagar, Oct 16: The Directorate of Samagra Shiksha, J&K, has directed government schools to implement 10 Bagless Days for students of Classes 6 to 8 in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
In a communication dated October 14, 2026, Administrative Officer Samagra Shiksha, Ashwini Kumar, asked Chief Education Officers across J&K to circulate the guidelines to all government higher secondary, high and middle schools where Classes 6 to 8 are taught.
The initiative aims to promote experiential learning, vocational exposure and competency-based education through structured, skill-based activities integrated into school education.
According to the communication, the Bagless Days initiative seeks to encourage students to participate in practical learning activities that develop skills through physical participation and learning by doing.
The directorate has stated that the guidelines will help schools implement the activities in a systematic manner. The initiative is intended to strengthen the link between classroom education and practical skills.
The Chief Education Officers have also been asked to ensure the successful implementation of the programme in their respective districts. They must submit a consolidated monthly progress report by the fifth of every month through the designated email address.
The communication further directs district-level authorities to ensure that the guidelines reach all concerned schools for implementation in letter and spirit.
The Bagless Days initiative is part of the broader educational reforms under NEP 2020, which emphasises practical learning, vocational skills and the overall development of students.
