Ahmedabad: In view of the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Ahmedabad, authorities have declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in the city on Saturday.The decision comes after the Ahmedabad Municipal School Board had earlier announced holidays on July 31 and Aug 1 for schools under its jurisdiction. While other schools across the city were initially granted a holiday only on July 31, the district administration has now extended the closure to all educational institutions on Saturday amid continuing rainfall and a red alert issued for the region.According to an official order issued by the district education officer under instructions from the district collector, all govt, grant-in-aid and self-financed primary, secondary and higher secondary schools, as well as colleges, will remain closed. The measure has been taken to safeguard students and prevent inconvenience caused by waterlogging and the possibility of flooding in low-lying areas of the city.Officials said regular academic activities are expected to resume from Monday, subject to prevailing weather conditions.Meanwhile, all anganwadi centres run by AMC will also remain shut until Monday, considering the safety of young children.The education offices of Ahmedabad East and Ahmedabad West have directed school managements to immediately communicate the holiday announcement to students, parents and staff to ensure effective implementation of the order.
