Ahmedabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Saturday, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated spells of extremely heavy rain in parts of Anand, Ahmedabad, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Botad and Bhavnagar districts.An orange alert has been issued for Amreli, Morbi, Kutch, Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Gandhinagar and Bharuch, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely. The IMD has also warned of heavy rain in several districts under a yellow alert, including Jamnagar, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Porbandar, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Mahisagar, Dahod, Panchmahal, Kheda, Vadodara, Surat, Navsari and Valsad.According to IMD officials, the depression over western Vidarbha and adjoining south Madhya Pradesh moved west-northwestwards and is expected to continue on a similar track across west Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Madhya Maharashtra. The system is likely to weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area over the next 24 hours, the weather department said in its synoptic outlook.The state is also under the influence of multiple weather systems, including the monsoon trough, an offshore trough, and the impact of a Western Disturbance, the IMD bulletin stated.Weather conditions are expected to improve from Sunday onwards, with the rain situation likely to gradually normalise across Gujarat.So far this monsoon season, Gujarat has received 56% of its average seasonal rainfall. South Gujarat has recorded the highest rainfall at 79% of its seasonal average, followed by east-central Gujarat at 49.5%, Saurashtra at 44%, North Gujarat at 42%, and Kutch at 19%. South Gujarat and parts of the eastern region received the heaviest rainfall on Friday.
