Kolkata: Former India captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly’s security cover has been downgraded from Z to Y category following a recent security review by the state govt, reducing the number of personnel in his security team from around eight-10 police officers to three-four personnel, including two armed officers.Ganguly is now the CAB president.Ganguly was granted Z-category security in May 2023 by the then state govt, with additional security for his residence. But police sources said the number of personnel assigned to his protection was gradually reduced in recent months despite the category remaining unchanged on paper. Before the 2023 upgrade, Ganguly had been receiving Y-category security. The latest decision comes as part of the govt’s policy of periodically reviewing security cover based on threat perception rather than status or public profile.
