KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress spokesperson and state vice-president Jay Prakash Majumdar was arrested by police on Wednesday on charges of harassing a woman and illegally occupying her house for several years, a police officer said. The complainant, Arati Roychowdhury, alleged that Majumdar had moved into the property as a tenant around 12 years ago. However, she claimed that he later stopped paying rent and continued to occupy the house without her consent. She further alleged that the TMC leader refused to vacate the premises despite repeated requests and used his political influence to continue occupying the property. According to the complaint, his actions effectively forced the rightful owner out of her own house.“We have arrested him (Jay Prakash Majumdar),” an officer of Bidhannagar North Police Station said.As news of the arrest spread, several people gathered in the area and shouted: “chor, chor” (thief, thief). There was no immediate response from the Trinamool Congress.
