Vadodara: A village sarpanch in Dahod was caught by the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) while allegedly accepting a Rs 50,000 bribe from a farmer after offering to act as a middleman to “settle” a police case linked to a liquor seizure.The ACB on Wednesday arrested Ramesh Baria (48), a sarpanch from Devgadh Baria, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.According to ACB officials, police had allegedly found a stock of liquor from the complainant’s farm 15 days ago, after which a case was filed.The complainant said Baria approached him and offered to help get the case closed. He allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 and claimed he would ‘mediate’ to resolve the matter. The complainant then approached the ACB.After verifying the allegations, ACB officials laid a trap and caught Baria red-handed accepting the bribe. Further investigation is under way to determine whether any other persons were involved in the arrangement.
