Vadodara: A 57-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for raping a 9-year-old girl in the Chhani area when only she and her younger brother were home. According to police, the accused, Jagdish Gohil, works in the area where the girl lives.Investigators said he would often talk to children playing in the area and give them chocolates or biscuits. On Tuesday, Gohil saw there were no adults at her home and approached her on the pretext of giving her chocolate. He allegedly raped the girl and later threatened her with dire consequences if she were to tell anyone about the crime.When the girl’s parents returned, she told them what had happened. A neighbour also saw Gohil outside the girl’s house and told her parents. “We registered a case for rape and offences under the Pocso Act against Gohil and arrested him,” said B D Jadeja, Nandesari police inspector, who is also in charge of Chhani police. The girl is getting medical treatment.
