Lucknow: In a bid to equip the state capital for rapid urbanisation and mounting traffic pressure, Sarojininagar MLA Rajeshwar Singh submitted a detailed 20-year Integrated Traffic and Urban Mobility Strategy to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, outlining a long-term, technology-driven roadmap to make Lucknow traffic-ready for the coming decades.Highlighting the city’s changing mobility needs, Singh said traffic management can no longer rely on short-term or reactive measures and must shift towards a coordinated, data-driven policy framework. Citing VAHAN data, the proposal noted that by 2025, Lucknow had nearly 31.8 lakh registered vehicles, with 1.2 to 1.5 lakh new vehicles added annually, intensifying congestion, parking stress, and accident risks. A key recommendation is the creation of a Multi-Department Traffic Management Task Force, bringing together the traffic police, the urban development department, LDA, the municipal corporation, PWD, the transport department, metro authorities, and the Smart City cell. The task force would hold mandatory monthly review meetings to ensure time-bound, accountable, and data-backed decision-making. The roadmap prioritises the expansion of metro and BRT networks, AI-based smart traffic signals, scientific vending zones, permanent removal of illegal encroachments, pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, and the promotion of electric mobility and green transport. Singh said integrated planning and inter-departmental coordination are essential to transform Lucknow into a modern, disciplined, and efficient capital city equipped to handle future traffic challenges.
