Panaji: Tempers flared at Sanvordem on Saturday when locals questioned water resources department (WRD) authorities following a PowerPoint presentation on the proposed Mirabag bandhara project. Barricades and women police personnel were deployed between the authorities of the WRD presenting the information and the locals gathered here. The locals, raising several queries, sought scrapping of the project. Tension mounted as they were not satisfied with the responses and told the officials to study the matter and return. They gave govt a timeline to scrap the project by Monday, failing which they threatened to intensify their agitation.“We want govt to immediately scrap the project. If we get no assurance in two days’ time, we will intensify our agitation and we will not think twice to take law and order into our own hands. Our people protested here for 29 days now,” said Sanket Bhandari.Locals objected to the project, stating that they were not taken into confidence, and said they feared it could pose a threat to their houses along the riverbank.
