Several pumps have been pressed into service to drain out the water from the water logged localities of Prayagraj

Prayagraj: Samajwadi Party activists on Thursday held a protest near All Saints’ Cathedral over rainwater drainage issues resulting in waterlogging in the city.A memorandum addressed to the district magistrate was also submitted, demanding an immediate resolution to the issue.Following heavy showers, rainwater accumulated on major city roads near police stations, hospitals, schools, government offices, and many localities for several days, disrupting the lives of citizens. The memorandum highlighted that areas like Mundera, Dhoomanganj, Gaus Nagar, Kareli, Saket Nagar, Meera Patti, George Town, Tagore Town, Allapur, Salori, Baghara, Ashok Nagar, Rajapur, Unchwa Garhi, and Beli Gaon remained waterlogged. Sewage water entered people’s homes. The stretch from Shiv Mandir to Ram Mandir on Naini Station Road, as well as Jamuna Nagar settlement, was submerged. Water has also accumulated in areas like Sugar Mill, Ram Leela Maidan, Chak Dodi, Maheva, Dandi, Nandan Talab, and Naini Bazaar (Shankar Dhal).Party spokesman Daan Bahadur Madhur said that waterlogging had led to shortages of drinking water and food supplies in most households. The power supply system was also disrupted and there was an increased risk of infectious diseases due to contaminated water entering homes. The Samajwadi Party alleged that the BJP government’s claims of creating a ‘Smart City’ have completely failed. They accused the administration of misappropriating public funds, leaving city residents in distress. The party functionaries warned that if these issues were not resolved promptly, a massive agitation would be launched.
