Kolkata: The house of a Trinamool councillor in Salt Lake, Alo Dutta, who reportedly went into hiding, fearing post-poll violence, was burgled earlier this week, prompting her to return and lodge a complaint on Thursday.Police said Dutta, councillor of Bidhannagar Ward 38, and her husband Nirmal, a former councillor and a Trinamool functionary, fled their Duttabad home a day after the election results were out. Dutta told police they went to Vellore for Nirmal’s kidney treatment and, upon returning, was staying at their ancestral home in Hooghly. “One of our neighbours called me to say our house in Duttabad was burgled between Monday and Tuesday. The burglars entered the house by cutting the grille in the rear portion and decamped with valuables,” she told police. According to the complaint, two gold chains, a pair of earrings, rings, around Rs 50,000 and a briefcase, containing her husband’s medicines, were stolen. The accused damaged the CCTV cameras at the house.Nirmal, who was arrested in April for allegedly threatening voters, claimed his family faced attacks after the poll results and that they were forced to stay away from their Duttabad home. They even alleged BJP-backed goons were behind this burglary but BJP denied the allegation.
