Ludhiana: Tension prevailed outside the BJP office at Dana Mandi on Gill Road on Tuesday after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and workers staged a protest against three BJP MPs who reportedly attended the funeral of late Sajjan Kumar, a convicted figure in the 1984 riots.Police personnel intervened to control the situation and prevent escalation after AAP demonstrators attempted to breach police barricades set up outside the BJP headquarters.Led by AAP Ludhiana city president Jatinder Khangura, the activists gathered at Dana Mandi before marching toward the BJP office.Prominent party leaders in attendance include MLAs Daljit Singh Grewal Bhola (Ludhiana East), Ashok Parashar Pappi (Ludhiana Central), Rajinder Pal Kaur Chhina (Ludhiana South), and Jagtar Singh Dayalpura (Samrala). Party functionaries Dr KNS Kang, Tejpal Gill, Gurdarshan Ghulli, Vijay Bector, and Nidhi Gupta were also present. Whereas, Parminder Singh Sandhu, Vicky Chahal, Sunny Bedi, Gurveer Bajwa Golu, and Manisha Kapoor represented the party’s youth and women wing.Speaking during the demonstration, Ludhiana East MLA Daljit Singh Grewal condemned the reported action of the parliamentarians.“Punjab is the land of gurus, saints and martyrs. Punjabis will not tolerate any attempt to hurt the pain of the Sikh families who suffered from the 1984 massacre,” Grewal said. “The participation of BJP MPs in paying tribute to Sajjan Kumar has further broken the hearts of the victims’ families. BJP and Congress have joined hands politically against Punjab, but the people of Punjab will never accept such politics.”Ludhiana Central MLA Ashok Parashar Pappi further alleged political hypocrisy. “Today three crore Punjabis have come to know about the double face of BJP as three Lok Sabha members pay homage to Sajjan Kumar,” Pappi said, adding that the people of Punjab are demanding answers from the BJP on the matter.
