Dumka: A block supply officer (BSO) in Sahibganj district was arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 on Thursday. The accused Nandan Kumar, posted in Barharwa, had received his maiden posting two months ago after getting qualified through the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination of the state govt.Kumar is a resident of Shivpahar in Dumka. He was arrested by a team from the regional office of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) from his office based on a complaint filed by Alamgir Alam, the president of Barharwa PDS Dealers’ Association.Kumar, sources claimed, was allegedly extorting Rs 5,000 monthly from each public distribution system (PDS) dealer in the block, prompting to register a complaint. Acting on the complaint, ACB laid a trap and sent Alamgir to the Kumar’s office with marked currencies amounting to Rs 40,000. As soon as Kumar accepted the cash, undercover ACB personnel closed in and arrested him.“The BSO was pressurising all dealers to pay. We couldn’t tolerate this illegal harassment any longer,” Alamgir said after Kumar’s arrest. The accused was taken to the ACB’s Dumka office. The agency did not release any statement till late evening.
