Nagpur: Bhoomipuja of a proposed 450-bed National Health Care Institute (NHCI) was performed by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday, marking the commencement of a major healthcare infrastructure project in Nagpur. The hospital will be located on North Ambazari Road.The ceremony was attended by Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari, former RSS sarkaryavah Bhaiyyaji Joshi, Maharashtra revenue minister and Nagpur guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, minister of state Ashish Jaiswal, and several other dignitaries.The project is being undertaken by Dr Aabaji Thatte Sewa Aur Anusandhan Sanstha, which had earlier established National Cancer Institute in Nagpur. Planned as a state-of-the-art, comprehensive multi-speciality and super-specialty hospital, NHCI aims to provide integrated diagnostic and treatment facilities under one roof, catering to patients from Nagpur and neighbouring states in Central India. The facility will also include organ transplant unit and a rooftop helipad to enable airlifting of critical patients requiring emergency care.Spread across approximately 5 lakh square feet area, NHCI is envisioned as a major healthcare and wellness hub. The hospital will offer a wide range of services across basic specialities such as internal medicine, general surgery, paediatric respiratory care, psychiatry, orthopaedics, obstetrics and gynaecology, dermatology, anaesthesiology, and alternative medicine. It will also house advanced super-specialities including geriatric rheumatology, cardiovascular neurology, nephrology and urology, gastroenterology, pulmonology, genetics, sports medicine, vascular surgery, and plastic and reconstructive surgery. Both general and private ward facilities are planned.In addition to clinical services, the institute will function as a medical education centre, offering postgraduate and super-speciality academic programmes.During the event, Shailesh Joglekar, general secretary of Dr Aabaji Thatte Sewa Aur Anusandhan Sanstha, presented the hospital’s concept and introduced the project team. Advocate Sunil Manohar, president of the trust, along with office-bearers including vice-president Ajay Sancheti and treasurer Anand Aurangabadkar welcomed the guests. The proceedings were conducted by Dr Medha Dixit.The project’s architectural and planning framework is being developed by Singapore-based HKS Asia Pacific Design Consulting PTE Ltd as concept design architects and medical planners, while Mumbai-based JJ Consultants will serve as principal architects. Tata Consulting Engineers Ltd has been appointed as the project management consultant.
