Nagpur: Barely three weeks after PWD claimed to have solved chronic flooding at Narendra Nagar underpass with a Rs9-crore pump-and-sump system, Tuesday’s deluge submerged the stretch again, forcing its closure and raising fresh doubts over the project’s effectiveness.Motorist Sanju Bhalavi told TOI his nine-month-old SUV was submerged after water levels rose rapidly while he was crossing the underpass. “The water was below knee level when we entered. Within moments, it rose rapidly, the engine stalled and we escaped through chest-deep water, leaving the vehicle behind,” he said.The PWD had installed four automated 40HP pumps and a 500-cubic metre sump to end decades of monsoon flooding. Meanwhile, a few other underpasses too remained closed for several hours due to waterlogging.
