Gondia: A 65-year-old woman was killed on the spot, and three others sustained serious injuries when a car plunged into a canal after crashing through the parapet of a bridge near Hardoli village on the Salekasa-Amgaon road in the early hours of Sunday.The deceased was identified as Leela Gautam, 65, a resident of Sakharitola. The injured are Vijay Gautam, 48, Sarita Gautam, 40, both residents of Sakharitola, and Yash Lakshane, 25, of Amgaon.According to preliminary information, members of the Gautam family travelled to Nagpur on Sunday morning in their car to attend a function. They were returning home when the accident occurred at around 1am near Hardoli.Police said the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle after allegedly dozing off at the wheel. The speeding car rammed through the bridge parapet and plunged directly into the canal below.After receiving the alert, an ambulance rushed to the scene. Ambulance personnel entered the canal and rescued the occupants from the vehicle. The injured were administered first aid before being shifted to the Rural Hospital in Amgaon for treatment. Hospital sources said the condition of some of the injured remains critical.
