Silchar: Police seized nearly 50,000 suspected Yaba tablets worth around Rs 5 crore from a truck in Cachar on Tuesday.Acting on a tip-off, a Gumra police team intercepted the truck near the old MVI gate on NH-6 (Badarpur-Guwahati) at Digarkhal in Katigorah.A search revealed a specially concealed compartment containing the suspected tablets.Police arrested Masum Uddin Tapadar in connection with the seizure. The accused and the truck were taken to Gumra police station, sources said.Officials said further investigation was underway to determine the exact nature of the seized substance and trace the consignment’s source and intended destination. Police were also probing the possible involvement of others in the suspected drug-trafficking network.The seizure comes amid growing concern over the use of Assam’s highways as transit routes for narcotics trafficked to other parts of the country.
