New Delhi: Delhi Police crime branch has busted an online investment fraud syndicate involving over 2,567 complaints across the country and an estimated fraud exceeding Rs 300 crore, with the arrest of its alleged mastermind, who had links to Cambodia.The case originated from a complaint by a man who was duped of Rs 31.4 lakh after being lured through a social media group promising high investment returns. He was persuaded to download a trading application and transfer money into multiple bank accounts. When he tried to withdraw profits, the app became nonfunctional.DCP (crime) Aditya Gautam said, “The accused, Karan Kajaria, acted as the central coordinator, maintaining links with international cyber fraud networks, particularly in Cambodia. He procured and distributed mule accounts, facilitated transactions through cryptocurrency channels and shared banking data via encrypted platforms like Telegram while frequently travelling abroad.”A lookout circular led to his interception at Kolkata airport. So far, 11 accused have been arrested.
