GURGAON: Two alleged cattle smugglers, including a criminal carrying a reward of Rs 3,000, were injured in an exchange of fire with Firozpur Jhirka Crime Staff during a police blockade near Ghaseda village in Nuh early Sunday.Two other suspects fled under the cover of darkness. Police recovered three cattle, two country-made pistols, seven cartridges and an Ertiga from the spot.The encounter took place around 3.30am when the police team, acting on a tip-off, had set up a barricade near Ghaseda on the Sadar Nuh police station side. Police said the suspects were moving the cattle towards Rajasthan for slaughter.According to a police officer, “The Ertiga stopped around 50-60 metres before the barricade and its driver attempted to turn back. When the police team moved to intercept the vehicle, the driver allegedly rammed it into the police vehicle. A man sitting on the front passenger side then opened fire at the police team, following which the cops retaliated.”During the exchange of fire, two suspects sustained bullet injuries to their legs and were overpowered. They were identified as Shamshad alias Senda, a resident of Utawar in Palwal, and Robin, a resident of Alimev in Palwal. Both were taken to Shaheed Hasan Khan Mewati Medical College and Hospital, Nalhar, for treatment.Police said two other suspects escaped from the spot during the firing. Their identities were disclosed by the arrested suspects, and teams are searching for them.“The police team recovered three cattle from the Ertiga along with two country-made pistols, four live cartridges and three empty shells. The vehicle was also seized,” the officer added.Police records showed Robin has 12 cases registered against him, while Shamshad has two cases. Shamshad also carries a Rs 3,000 reward announced by Rajasthan Police. Investigators are checking their records for cases registered in other districts and states.The police team was led by Sub-Inspector Mahendra Singh, in-charge of Firozpur Jhirka Crime Staff. Police have registered a case and started further investigation, while efforts are underway to arrest the two suspects who fled.
