Kanpur: Police in Kanpur on Thursday claimed to have busted a cyber fraud network allegedly involving transactions worth around Rs 250 crore and arrested four people accused of preparing forged Aadhaar cards, opening mule accounts and transferring proceeds of online fraud through them.The accused were identified as Vipin and Shivpratap, both residents of Auraiya; Rajshekhar alias Ajit of Bidhuna in Auraiya; and Himanshu Gautam of Raniya in Kanpur Dehat.Police recovered forged Aadhaar cards and documents related to mule accounts allegedly used to transfer proceeds of online fraud.DCP West SM Qasim Abidi said investigators, while examining a suspected bank account on the NCRP portal, found transactions worth about Rs 8 crore within three days. He said 115 complaints linked to the account had been registered in different states.According to police, further investigation uncovered a network of mule accounts allegedly used for cyber fraud, leading to the identification and arrest of the accused.Police alleged that Rajshekhar was the mastermind behind the network and arranged mule accounts using forged documents.Investigators also found that Himanshu had opened an office named ‘Orbit Build Infrastructer’ at Vijay Nagar Chauraha, where work related to mule accounts and cyber fraud-linked transactions was allegedly carried out.Police said they were probing other links in the network and related financial transactions based on the questioning of the accused.
