Assam Rifles and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized 5.6 lakh suspected Yaba tablets

Silchar: Assam Rifles and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 5.6 lakh suspected Yaba tablets valued at Rs 168 crore in Cachar.The agencies apprehended an alleged drug peddler during a joint operation in Jujhang Pahar under Lakhipur police station on the night of Aug 25-26, an official said on Thursday.The tablets, weighing around 60 kg, were recovered from a truck allegedly being used to transport the contraband. The vehicle was also seized.Officials suspect the consignment originated in neighbouring Manipur and was being transported to Assam via NH-37.A preliminary investigation indicated that an interstate narcotics syndicate was using Cachar and Sribhumi districts as transit corridors to transport drugs to other parts of the country, the official said.The apprehended person, contraband and the vehicle were handed over to the authorities concerned for further investigation and legal proceedings.
