Kanpur: Two suspected robbers who allegedly tried to flee after a failed robbery attempt were caught and thrashed by locals in the Chakeri area on Saturday afternoon.According to police, the two men, allegedly disguised in burqas, entered a house in LIG Awas, Shyam Nagar, and assaulted a woman while attempting a robbery.However, neighbours were alerted by the woman’s screams, after which the accused tried to flee but were caught by locals, and were beaten up.Police reached the spot after receiving information and detained the accused.A drilling machine, a cutter and other tools were recovered from their possession. The victim told police that the duo had been surveying the house since morning and were wearing gloves during the incident to avoid leaving behind evidence.ACP Chakeri Ashutosh Kumar Singh said a female friend of one of the accused was being questioned and further legal action would be taken based on the evidence collected.
