Ajmer: The Ajmer division of railway administration installed 11 hot axle box detector technology at different important locations on rail tracks. Hot axle, excessive heating of wheel axles, is considered to be one of the main causes of rail accidents. This equipment monitors the temperature of wheels of moving rolling stock.Officials said that if the axle of any coach or wagon is found to be hotter than the prescribed limit, the system immediately detects it, and therefore the use of hot axle box detectors also helps in preventing accidents. Officials added that the system sends cloud-based real-time alerts. The biggest feature of this technology is its ‘cloud connectivity’. As soon as a hot axle is identified, the system immediately sends an alert to the control office through the cloud. This enables the controller and technical team to know in an instant which compartment of which train has a problem. This makes it easier to take swift action and ensure safety. Upon receiving the alert, the concerned train is stopped at the next station or a suitable location, and intensive inspection of the rolling stock is carried out. Timely action is yielding great success in averting potential accidents. Divisional Railway Manager Raju Bhutada said that with this integration of technology, not only has rail travel become safer, but there is also improvement in the punctuality of trains. These hot axle detectors are checked and are working smoothly at different points in the division, which is from Madar to Palanpur (Gujarat), and here fencing of the rail track has also been done to avoid further accidents.
