Patna: The RJD workers have stationed themselves outside the official residence of former CM Rabri Devi in Patna and begun providing round-the-clock security after the withdrawal of her earlier security cover. The workers are guarding the 10, Circular Road bungalow in shifts with each team performing eight-hour duty. The move came a day after Rabri asked the official security personnel to leave following the downgrading of the security cover provided to her and RJD national president Lalu Prasad. Their earlier Z+ security cover was replaced with security personnel from the Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP).“We can’t leave them exposed to inimical forces. RJD workers have taken full control of the netas’ security and providing them security on a rotation basis,” RJD legislator and state business cell president Ranvijay Sahu said. “Since one person can’t do duty constantly for 24 hours, a rotation system has been adopted.” He added that around 20 workers were deployed in each shift.RJD state general secretary Bhai Arun said party workers had voluntarily taken up security duties. “We are equally alert at night and none is being allowed to enter inside without proper verification and security check,” Arun said. He added that arrangements for food and rest had been made for those on duty.“Until Lalu and Rabri’s security is restored, we will guard their home,” Arun said, adding, “All are doing duty willingly and happily.”Another party worker, Anand Kumar Yadav alias Nandu Yadav, said, “Our netas are our strength and we just can’t leave them alone at this critical moment.” Confirming the rotation system, he added, “Hamlog do din se date hain (We have been standing for two days).”The development followed a decision by the state govt to downgrade the security cover of Lalu and Rabri after a meeting of the State Security Committee. The issue comes amid a dispute over Rabri’s official residence. The bungalow was recently allotted to a BJP minister, and she was asked to vacate it within a fortnight. Rabri, however, has resisted the move, saying, “They can call the force to vacate the place, but I will not vacate the place.”
