Prayagraj: In a major infrastructure development in Prayagraj, a six-lane bridge, with a 2,100-metre-long cable-stayed section, is being constructed over the Ganga under the phase-II of the Ring Road project. The bridge, being developed between Nibi Kala, Chhatnag and Saraswati Hi-Tech City in Naini, is expected to decongest city roads and reduce travel time. The 3,100 metres long bridge would feature a 2,100-metre-long cable-stayed section, making it one of the most prominent engineering structures in the region. According to officials, the cable-stayed portion will have cables installed at intervals of 150 metres, with around 14 cable segments planned. This configuration is more extensive than the cable design used in the Malak Harhar to Stanley Road stretch, where cables are installed over only 800 metres at wider intervals. The design is expected to enhance both the structural strength and aesthetic appeal of the bridge. The bridge is being constructed on 80 pillars, and nearly 90% of the pillar work has already been completed. The authorities expect the remaining pillar construction to finish by May. Following this, work on placing segments and developing the superstructure will begin from June. Segment casting is already underway near Saraswati Hi-Tech City to support the next phase of construction. Officials associated with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said that the cable installation work is likely to commence from July. The Ring Road project in Prayagraj aims to decongesting city traffic by diverting heavy vehicles away from the urban core and improving connectivity between trans-Ganga and trans-Yamuna regions. Once completed, the new bridge is expected to significantly reduce travel time and ease pressure on the existing routes, especially during peak hours and large gatherings like Magh Mela and Maha Kumbh. Now, lights make commuting safe on Yamuna bridge In another important development set to improve commuter convenience, the city’s 161-year-old Yamuna bridge will soon be equipped with permanent lights. The Prayagraj municipal corporation has received approval from the railway authorities for the same and has already conducted successful trial installations. At present, vehicles pass through the bridge in near darkness after sunset, leading to safety concerns. With the installation of lights, commuters will benefit from improved visibility and safer movement. The civic body has initiated the tender process, and work on installing permanent lights is expected to begin shortly.
