Ranchi: The body of a second-year MBBS student of Rims was found hanging in his hostel room, police said on Saturday. The deceased, identified as Akshit Kujur, was a native of Simdega district, but his parents are currently in Punjab, the police added.During investigation, Dr Shiv Priya, dean, students welfare, said Kujur’s body was discovered by his friends who had initially knocked on his door but failed to get a response. “When they finally managed to break through the door, they found him hanging. They brought him down and rushed him to the emergency ward where he was declared brought dead on arrival,” he said.Prima facie, police said that it appeared that the medical student died allegedly by suicide, adding the exact cause of death will be ascertained after post-mortem examination. A source, however, said that Kujur was battling mental stress over a broken relationship.President of Rims’s junior doctor association Dr Jitendra Kumar said, “This is a very unfortunate incident. I believe youngsters should be counselled to enable them handle pressure situations like examination, personal difficulties and others.”
