Ranchi: Rims has begun groundwork for several infrastructural upgrades, including boosting faculty and manpower strength, at the premier medical college in the state following the recent hike in MBBS seats here.Rims authorities held a review meeting on Monday to assess the progress of ongoing infrastructural development and healthcare expansion works. During the meeting, special focus was put on fulfilling National Medical Commission (NMC) norms after the recent increase in MBBS seats.In a major boost to medical education in Jharkhand, Rims got an NMC nod in July to increase its MBBS seats from 180 to 250. The increase of 70 undergraduate seats is expected to significantly enhance the state’s capacity to produce more doctors and help address the shortage of medical professionals.During the Monday’s meeting, Rims officials assessed the status of renovation and civil construction, upgrades to OPD and IPD services, ward modernisation, patient amenities and other departmental requirements. The meeting also reviewed the institute’s preparedness in terms of infrastructure, faculty and manpower, teaching facilities, clinical material and other resources required to support the enhanced undergraduate intake.Rims director Dr D K Sinha told officials and heads of departments to complete all necessary works in a timely manner and ensure quality in ongoing construction and renovation projects, and make available all resources necessary for the expanded MBBS programme.
