Kolkata: A right-versus-right fight erupted at Jadavpur University after a right-wing staff union held a protest at Aurobindo Bhavan portico on Monday at the same spot where the ‘yajna’ was performed by the other right-wing group on Friday demanding removal of acting registrar and finance officer and for the awakening of good sense and wisdom of JU authorities. They condemned performing the ‘yajna’ as it tarnished JU’s image and glory.“Removal of any official cannot be achieved by tarnishing the image and glory of the university and destroying its work culture. It has specific procedures. Performing ‘yajna’ for such illogical reasons is an insult to Sanatan Dharma. We condemn such acts. May good sense prevail upon those who engage in such condemnable acts,” said West Bengal Universities Karmachari Parishad (WBUKP), JU unit secretary Palas Maji. He added, “We met the vice-chancellor and the acting registrar. They told us that they felt extremely insulted on Friday. We apologised to them on their behalf,” WBUKP is a unit of the BJP trade union relation cell.Paschimbanga Visvavidyalaya Karmachari Sangh (PVKS), JU unit, which is affiliated to Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), staged a demonstration outside the VC’s office on Monday demanding the removal of acting registrar and finance officer. “We are not considering Palas and his organisation as our opponents. We share the same ideology. We believe they are being used by leftists and Trinamools against us,” said PVKS, JU unit secretary Biswajit Deb.
