Kendrapada: Vigilance officials on Friday arrested a revenue inspector (RI) of Kaupada circle in Kendrapada district while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,500 from a person to facilitate issuance of a record of rights (ROR) in a mutation case. The accused, Darshini Lenka, was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting the bribe from the complainant in exchange for submitting a favourable report.According to vigilance officials, the complainant bought a parcel of land from two joint owners a few years ago and applied for mutation of the property on June 24 this year to obtain the ROR in his name. Despite repeated requests to dispose of the mutation case, the RI allegedly demanded Rs 6,000 as illegal gratification. When the applicant expressed his inability to pay the amount, Lenka allegedly reduced the demand to Rs 5,500. Unable to bear the harassment, the complainant approached vigilance, which laid a trap and caught the official while she was accepting the bribe. The entire bribe amount of Rs 5,500 was recovered from the accused and seized in the presence of witnesses.Following the trap, vigilance officials launched simultaneous searches at three locations linked to Lenka to investigate her assets.
