Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday urged Union civil aviation minister K Rammohan Naidu to invite tenders and commence work on the proposed airports at Mamnoor in Warangal and Adilabad. he also requested the Union minister to examine the feasibility of operating seaplanes between Hussainsagar in Hyderabad and the Prakasam barrage in Andhra Pradesh.The CM met the Union minister at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, the civil aviation ministry’s office in New Delhi, and held extensive discussions on the proposed airports and the seaplane project. Revanth suggested that the feasibility of operating seaplanes between Hussainsagar and the Prakasam Barrage be examined. According to the CMO, Rammohan Naidu asked the state govt to submit the necessary proposals for the initiative.Stating that land acquisition for the Mamnoor airport has already been completed, the CM urged the aviation minister to ensure that construction is completed so that airport is ready for inauguration by June 2, 2028. During the meeting, the duo also discussed the design of the Warangal airport, with Revanth Reddy suggesting that, given the city’s rich heritage, the terminal designs should reflect the history and culture of the Kakatiya dynasty. The Union minister responded positively to this suggestion, the CMO said.The CM also requested Rammohan Naidu to establish a civil airport alongside the existing defence-run airstrip in Adilabad and assured the him that the state govt would acquire and hand over the required land for both airports. Revanth also urged the minister to ensure that maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), air cargo, and hangar facilities are established at the Warangal and Adilabad airports.He further sought the establishment of Flight Training Organisations (FTOs) at both airports. Highlighting the strategic and commercial advantages of the proposed airports, The CM said Warangal is a key city with well-connected by rail and road networks, and is home to the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park, the Kazipet Coach Factory, and several other industries. He informed the Union minister that Warangal would be further developed as an industrial hub in the near future.“Warangal would serve as a central hub for the districts of the erstwhile Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, and Khammam regions, as well as Nalgonda, in north Telangana,” Revanth said.According to the CMO, Revanth said development has no connection with politics and that political activities should be confined to election periods. Addressing the media after the meeting, Revanth said airports play a pivotal role in the development of nations and added that Telangana govt is striving to promote development and create employment opportunities for the youth through the expansion of airports.Revanth said the Centre has been cooperating with the state on various issues and that he, along with his cabinet colleagues and officials, has been regularly meeting Union ministers to resolve issues whenever challenges arise. He added that any gaps in communication are addressed through mutual discussions. Revanth also advised against politicising visits to Delhi, saying such trips are undertaken solely to meet Union ministers on development-related issues.Rammohan Naidu said states across the country are competing to establish airports and appreciated the Telangana govt for completing land acquisition for the proposed airport faster than many other states. Responding to a question, Rammohan Naidu said the CM had requested that the Warangal airport’s design reflect the culture and legacy of the Kakaitya dynasty.
