Hyderabad: Family members of P Raj Kumar, a 35-year-old farmer who died by suicide after allegedly killing six people, including a POCSO case victim and his two minor sons, refused to collect his body after the post-mortem at Chevella Hospital on Monday night to perform his last rites.Raj Kumar’s body was found in an open field at Penjerla village, about 25 kilometres from his native village of Daiwalaguda near Shabad, on Monday afternoon. An empty herbicide bottle was found next to the body. After the clues team collected forensic evidence from the scene, police shifted the body to Chevella govt hospital for a post-mortem examination in the evening. As only one duty doctor was available at the time, police requested two more doctors from the same hospital to join the examination to ensure that the post-mortem was conducted by a team of doctors, given the sensitivity of the case. The team began the post-mortem examination at 9.30 pm after completing the necessary formalities. Raj Kumar’s father, Arun Kumar, and other family members, who had identified the body before the post-mortem, later refused to collect it to perform his last rites.“Raj Kumar’s family did not want to perform his last rites as they believed he had committed a heinous offence by killing six people, including his wife and their two minor sons. They told us that residents of Raj Kumar’s native village also did not want his last rites to be performed there,” Moinabad in charge ACP B Kishan said. After obtaining a written undertaking from Raj Kumar’s family stating that they did not wish to perform his last rites, Chevella police informed the local municipal authorities at around 11.30 pm.“We informed the municipal officials. They made the necessary arrangements and performed the last rites at a graveyard in Chevella on Monday night,” the ACP said.Police found a selfie video on Raj Kumar’s mobile phone on Friday evening, recorded about seven hours before the brutal murders. In the video, Raj Kumar alleged that the minor girl and her family members were responsible for his decision to go on a killing spree, claiming that they had financially exploited him. However, police said there was no evidence to support his allegations. Since the girl, her mother and grandmother were all allegedly killed by Raj Kumar before he ended his own life, there is little left to investigate in the two murder cases and the suicide.“We will file final reports before the court in the two murder cases after the completion of the investigation, as proceedings against the accused have abated due to his death,” a senior police officer said.
