Patna: The Bihar police department has announced a major recruitment drive to fill 15,821 vacant posts of Special Auxiliary Police (SAP), targeting retired personnel from the Indian Army and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). The initiative aims to utilise the experience and skill-sets of ex-servicemen to strengthen the state’s policing and security framework.According to the official notification, the selection process will be conducted through recruitment rallies, with no written examination or physical efficiency test. However, applicants must be physically fit and capable of handling weapons and performing field duties. Only candidates who are natives of Bihar will be eligible, and they must produce a valid domicile certificate at the time of participation.The department has indicated that preference will be given to candidates with specialised skills such as disaster management, bomb detection and disposal, driving, swimming, diving, and motorboat operation. These skills are considered crucial for modern policing, particularly in emergency response and disaster-prone regions.Danapur Cantonment has been entrusted with conducting the recruitment process. The rallies will be held division-wise across the state in June 2026. As per the schedule, candidates from Purnia, Bhagalpur, and Darbhanga divisions will attend the rally on June 1, followed by those from Kosi, Munger, and Saran on June 2. Tirhut division candidates will appear on June 3, Magadh on June 4, and Patna division (covering Patna and Nalanda districts) on June 5. The final rally on June 6 will cater to candidates from Patna division districts including Bhojpur, Bhabua, Rohtas, and Buxar.Candidates who are unable to attend on their assigned dates will be allowed to participate in recruitment rallies scheduled in the first week of subsequent months.The notification clarified that only those who have retired honourably from military or paramilitary services will be eligible. Applicants must carry essential documents, including discharge books, pension payment orders, bank passbooks showing pension details, Aadhaar cards, identity cards, caste certificates issued after January 1, 2026, and AWPO registration numbers.Category-wise allocation includes 2,936 posts for EBC, 2,688 for SC, 1,525 for BC, 510 for women in the BC category, 163 for SC Tribes, and 1,582 for EWS. Of the total vacancies, 6,417 posts are unreserved. Additionally, 316 posts have been reserved for grandchildren of freedom fighters, while 4% of the total posts are earmarked for persons with disabilities.
