Srinagar, Sep 14: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) Provincial President Showkat Mir on Monday called for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir without further delay, saying it was essential for effective governance.
Mir made the remarks while interacting with public delegations, party leaders and functionaries from different areas at the NC headquarters in Srinagar.
He listened to issues raised by the visiting delegations and directed party functionaries to approach the concerned authorities for their redressal. He also sought feedback from workers on organisational matters, party programmes and ongoing activities.
Mir said the government headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah remained committed to addressing public concerns and that serving the people was its foremost priority.
He said restoration of statehood would allow the government to function more effectively and without “unnecessary constraints”.
The NC leader also accused the PDP, BJP and their “like-minded” parties of engaging in what he termed false propaganda against the National Conference. He alleged that these parties had contributed to the dismantling of Jammu and Kashmir’s historic statehood and created difficulties for its people.
Mir urged party workers to keep public concerns at the centre of their activities and work towards strengthening the bond between the party and the people.
Provincial Secretary Syed Tauqeer Ahmad, senior party leader and Pulwama District President Mohammad Khalil Band, Ghulam Nabi Wani Tilbali and other party functionaries were present during the interaction.
