Gaya: Residents of Ward 34 under the Gaya Municipal Corporation staged a protest on Monday over the acute shortage of tap water, alleging that they had been grappling with the crisis for the past three months. They claimed that taps had remained dry even during the peak summer months and warned of a gherao of the district magistrate’s office if the problem was not resolved.Ward councillor Om Yadav said he had repeatedly raised the issue with officials of the Gaya Municipal Corporation, Buidco and the district administration. He said Gewal Bigha, a slum locality in the ward, was considered a dry zone and required special attention.Although pipelines under the Gangajal water supply scheme have reached nearly 80% of households, many residents are yet to receive water and are forced to depend on neighbouring areas.Residents said the prolonged shortage had severely disrupted daily life. “Children have to leave for school without taking a bath, while families struggle to arrange water,” they said.
